About Mayah
I studied Math at Union College and graduated last year. Before starting college, I tutored privately for three years. Once I started college I began primarily tutoring for the math department at Union. I worked in several different tutoring and teaching roles at Union and outside. At Union I worked in the Calculus Help Center and as a Math Coach (their version of a TA). I also did individual tutoring for students professors would put me in contact with. Outside of Union I taught at a Middle/High school for a few months. There I primarily taught Algebra 1 and 2, but I also worked with some students taking Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AB Calculus. Since graduating college, I have started a Mathematics PhD program at Boston College. So far I have worked as a TA for Calculus 1 and have taken a required teaching seminar to hone my skills as a TA and tutor.

My teaching method and techniques for tutoring start off being very student centered. If that isn't working we can adjust. But, in a typical session, you will bring some problems or concepts that you're struggling with. I will re-explain the concepts and try a problem while talking you through my thought process. I will then try a problem with you guiding me and help you if needed. Once you see the approach and thought process behind that type of problem, I will have you try one on your own.
