About Arnav

I am a student myself, and I understand the difficulty of math when you don't understand a certain concept or step in a problem. I am a visual learner, so I like to work through many formulas and practice problems to completely understand how to use them. It is also important to note that many things seem much more difficult than they truly are when you first encounter them- for example, I am currently taking Calculus, but when I first had to learn multiplication, it was one of the hardest things for me. Then it was variables, then solving quadratic equations, and eventually, step by step, it became antiderivatives. I share this story to give evidence to the fact that learning isn't stages, nor is it linear. Learning is progressive, and a tutor's job should be to help students progress, not to just teach them concepts.

About the lesson

Formulas taught in school can be complicated and confusing, so I like to simplify them for learners to make sense. When you can visualize how a formula works, it will be much easier to remember and derive! Also, the student will be the one making the "lesson plans"; I find it much more beneficial when the learner has a specific itinerary they want to go through, which will help them stay focused and understand what we are doing. That can mean going through practice problems, deriving formulas, etc.
