About Akshya

Hi! I'm Akshya, an incoming engineering freshman at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a professional math tutor with three years of experience. I’ve helped students strengthen their math skills and achieve top ACT scores, drawing from my own success passing multiple AP exams and earning a top ACT score. I take a professional, structured approach to every lesson, making complex topics easy to understand while building confidence and problem-solving skills. My sessions are tailored, encouraging, and focused on real results — whether you’re preparing for college math or aiming for ACT success. I’m committed to your growth and success, and I’m here to help you reach your highest potential.

About the lesson

My Approach as a Tutor:

Teaching Method and Techniques:
I focus on breaking complex concepts into smaller, understandable pieces, using real-world examples that incoming engineering students can relate to. I prioritize active learning — encouraging students to solve problems with me, not just watch me do it. For math and ACT prep, I teach efficient problem-solving strategies, time management, and critical thinking techniques. I also adjust my teaching style depending on each student’s learning pace, whether they need a step-by-step walkthrough or a high-level overview.

Typical Lesson Plan:

Warm-up (5-10 min): Quick review of previously covered material to reinforce learning.

Main Topic (30-40 min): Teach a new concept, breaking it down with examples, visuals, and practice problems.

Application (15-20 min): Solve harder questions together, including real ACT-style or engineering-related problems.

Wrap-up (5 min): Recap key points, assign focused practice problems, and set goals for the next lesson.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:

Experience: I’ve been tutoring math for three years, working with students at different levels, including high schoolers preparing for college.

Success on Exams: I’ve passed multiple AP exams and scored at the top of the ACT, so I know firsthand what it takes to succeed under pressure.

Student-Centered Approach: I focus not just on right answers but on helping students build true confidence and independence in math and test-taking.

Engineering Perspective: As an incoming engineering freshman myself at UIUC, I understand the skills and mindset needed for success in technical fields.

Who the Lessons Are For:
These lessons are designed for incoming freshmen at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign who are entering engineering or other STEM fields. They’re ideal for students who want to sharpen their math foundations, boost their ACT scores, or build academic habits that will support them through challenging first-year college courses.
