About Floris
After graduating with First Class Honours (Summa Cum Laude) for both my BSc and MSc, I earned my PhD in Mathematical Physics from Durham University (the UK). During my doctoral research, I taught undergraduate students as a university tutor, which I enjoyed a lot. Currently, I work as a Machine Learning Scientist. In my day-to-day job, I regularly translate high-level mathematics into actionable concepts for colleagues with less technical backgrounds.
My long-term ambition is to transition fully into online education while traveling across Europe. Because this is my ultimate goal, I am deeply invested in building long-term, dedicated partnerships with my students, serving as a reliable pillar of support throughout their academic journey.
When I’m not training statistical models or teaching, you can usually find me outdoors enjoying nature.

The biggest mistake an educator can make is assuming the material is self-evident. Just because a concept makes sense to one person doesn't mean it instantly clicks for another. That is why my approach is rooted entirely in patience, empathy, and clear communication. My mission is to break down intimidating concepts into digestible pieces using real-world examples that actually work for you. Everyone processes information differently; if one explanation doesn't resonate, we pivot and attack the problem from a different angle until it clicks.
I offer tailored support across multiple levels:
- University & College: Physics, applied mathematics, probability, and statistics (for both STEM and non-technical majors ).
- High School & Exam Prep: From foundational skills to advanced tracks, including AP Calculus/Physics, IB, A-Levels, and international curricula.
Every student is unique, so we can always customize the session structure to fit your specific goals or deadlines. As a blueprint, I generally use a highly effective three-block framework:
- Block I (The Warm-up): We review previous concepts and tackle any specific homework bottlenecks or urgent questions you brought to the session.
- Block II (The Core): We dive into the new material. We break down the theory and quickly transition to interactive problem-solving. We look at the problems under a microscope so you learn by doing.
- Block III (The Wrap-up): A short recap to test your understanding and ensure you have truly mastered the new concepts before practicing independently.
