About Jesse
I am very well qualified and interested in helping students with their physics and math studies. I recently finished my PhD work in physics, which involved 4 years as a Teachers Assistant (TA). As a TA I alternate weekly between teaching labs and homework help sessions. The homework help sessions give me the experience of working with students in both one on one and small group settings. I have a strong feel for how to help students get themselves through a physics problem. Following each lab session, the students submitted lab reports, and I graded them. By keeping track of the students’ improvement on lab reports, and their understanding of the lab objectives, I am able to me to help them hone both their communication and lab skills. I make time outside of class to meet with students who struggle with lab reports, and I see significant improvement after meeting with them.

I generally try to first get a picture of what a student understands already, and then I build on that and help them to help themselves toward a more full understanding. When solving a problem for example, this would mean that we would start with the student telling me how they think they should begin to answer it. I would then highlight the type of thinking that will help the student to reason out the answer, offering help when needed. I strive to be attentive, patient and a good resource. I do not coddle students by just giving the answers, but instead I make sure they are equipped to answer similar questions in the future.
