About Priyankar
I am a PhD researcher at the Department of Human-Centered Design at IIIT-Delhi, where my work focuses on how older adults interact with digital technologies in their everyday lives. I investigate how thoughtful design can empower older individuals to learn, adapt, and explore new technology on their own terms.
At the heart of my approach is a belief that technology comes second, while understanding people comes first. I enjoy engaging directly with people, listening to their experiences, empathizing with their problems, and identifying their genuine needs before (even) thinking of possible solutions.
Before stepping into research, I spent over a decade in the software industry, holding roles across companies like Comcast, Infosys, and Comviva. My industry background spans software testing, web development, systems analysis, and technical leadership.
Outside of research and engineering, I am an avid reader, traveler, and photographer. I also have a soft spot for classic spy movies.

Teaching Philosophy

With a background as a Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researcher and professional experience at leading technology companies—including Comcast, Infosys, and Comviva—I bring both real-world industry expertise and a deep understanding of how people learn, how they interact in the real world, and how they behave.
In my research, everything starts with "People", observing them, understanding their unique needs, and designing solutions tailored to them. My approach to teaching is no different. Every student learns uniquely. Just like plants requiring different soil, sunlight, and care, students thrive when instruction is tailored to their specific pace, background, and learning style. One size does not fit all.
My goal isn't just to help students memorize steps to pass an exam; it is to help them become confident, independent problem-solvers. I don't give away immediate answers—I guide students to ask the right questions so they can say: "I don't know how to do this yet, but I know how to figure it out." I want them to be able to step out of their comfort zones if required, when trying to solve a given problem.
Teaching Philosophy & Methodology

Question first: We focus on asking why or how something works before memorizing syntax or formulas.
Learn by Doing: Concepts are taught through hands-on projects, real-world examples, and interactive problem-solving.
Tailored Approach: Instruction is tailored to the individual—to leverage a student’s strengths and address their unique learning requirements.
Complex Ideas Made Simple: Technical concepts are explained in clear, plain language before diving into formal terminology.
Safe Environment for Growth: Mistakes are treated as valuable learning steps, building the confidence to experiment and iterate.
What a Typical Session Looks Like

Quick Check-In: Reviewing concepts taught in the previous class and clearing any lingering doubts.
Interactive Concept Intro: Introducing new topics using plain language and clear, intuitive examples.
Guided Practice: Working through problems collaboratively step-by-step. Here, I guide them through a few examples, trying to show them the way. Doing so helps students gain the confidence to be able to solve problems on their own.
Independent Problem-Solving: The student takes the lead with real-time feedback. Subtle hints are provided if needed.
Recap & Next Steps: Summarizing key takeaways and assigning a light, meaningful practice task.
Who I Teach

School Students mainly 6-9: Science (Physics, Biology), Mathematics, Fundamentals of computer science, programming, and core academic subjects.
Motivated Beginners: Adults or self-starters of any age building a strong foundation in web programming and design from scratch.
