About Makenna

I am a passionate and encouraging math tutor who believes every student can make progress with the right support and approach. As an Oregon State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and experience as a Math Learning Assistant, I understand the importance of clear explanations, patience, and building confidence.

I work with each student individually to understand their goals, learning style, and current challenges. I am willing to try different methods and explanations until we find an approach that works best for them. My goal is to create a supportive, professional, and judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning from mistakes.

Whether you need help understanding a difficult concept, completing coursework, preparing for an exam, or strengthening your problem-solving skills, I will work with you to make math more approachable and manageable.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centered on active learning, encouragement, and adapting to each student’s individual needs. I believe students learn best when they are involved in the process rather than simply watching someone solve a problem. I work with students to understand how they approach math, identify where they are struggling, and find explanations or strategies that make the material easier to understand.

A typical lesson begins by discussing the student’s goals, questions, and current understanding. We then review important concepts, work through examples together, and practice problems with increasing independence. I encourage students to explain their reasoning, ask questions, and learn from mistakes. We finish by reviewing key takeaways and identifying what they should practice before the next lesson.

What sets me apart is my passion for math and my willingness to try different teaching methods until we find an approach that works for the student. I aim to create a patient, supportive, and judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence.

I offer tutoring for students working on mathematics at the high school, college, and introductory university levels, including students who need additional support understanding concepts, completing coursework, preparing for exams, or strengthening their problem-solving skills.
