About Yasaman
Hi, I'm Yasy!
I've been a tutor since college, earning my Computer Engineering degree at UC San Diego. I tutored 2nd graders, Seniors in high school, and everyone in between. The highlight of my time there was taking one of my students who was struggling to pass her math class during her Junior year, and getting her into the honors math program in her Senior year!
I took a teaching course at UCSD where I went to the local school and worked as a teacher's assistant running the classroom and helping students with their coursework.
Once I became a professional Software Developer I continued working as a tutor, volunteering with a school in the Bronx assisting students who needed extra aid getting through their lessons. I've worked with a wide range of students who all have different ways of learning and different needs for keeping them engaged.
My specialties are algebra, geometry, calculus, computer programming, and writing, but am available for most other Science and English topics as well.

My minor in Psychology gives me an advantage understanding each student's unique learning style. Some students learn through various examples that increase in difficulty, others learn best if I create problems related to a topic they have a natural interest in (if you're going skateboarding with your friends after school and need to make sure everybody has a sandwich for lunch...etc.) I get to know how each student learns and what keeps them engaged and cater my teaching style to them as individuals.
I genuinely love Math and Science and it excites me to see a student getting excited about these topics as well. All they need is to just have the information taught in a way that makes sense to them.
My lesson plans vary on what the individual need is. If a student needs help with homework we will go through their homework together. I will watch and help them out and I will create extra practice problems in any areas I notice they need a little bit more help in. Repetition is key for making sure they thoroughly understand what it is they're doing.
If a student is studying for a test, we will review their notes and go over problems, I will quiz them and hold discussions to ensure they adequately understand the full range of the topic.
Typically, I love to give students practice problems as a way of reinforcing their understanding until they feel confident within themselves that they can handle any sort of question that comes their way!
