About Anam Arafat
I am an Aerospace Engineering PhD graduate from Queen Mary University of London and currently work as a Research Software Engineer at Ansys UK, where I develop software for advanced engineering simulations.
I achieved A*, A* and A in Edexcel GCE A-Level Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, and have several years of teaching experience across both school and university levels.
From 2012 to 2016, I taught A-Level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry to sixth-form students. During my PhD (2016–2020), I also worked as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate Mathematics and Engineering modules at Queen Mary University.
I specialise in helping students develop strong problem-solving skills and deep conceptual understanding, particularly in Mathematics, Mechanics and Engineering-related topics. My academic and industry background allows me to explain difficult concepts in a practical and intuitive way.
I have returned to tutoring because my current remote role gives me the flexibility to support students again, something I genuinely enjoy and find rewarding.

I offer both in-person and online tuition, with flexible evening and weekend availability. For students based in and around Huntingdon and Cambridgeshire, I am happy to arrange in-person lessons where suitable.
A typical lesson lasts between 1 and 2 hours. In the first few sessions, we identify strengths, weaknesses and goals, then create a structured plan to master the required topics within the available timeframe.
When starting a new topic, I focus on:
building strong foundational understanding,
explaining key concepts and common pitfalls,
working through guided examples,
and gradually developing independent problem-solving ability.
For existing topics, lessons are usually more problem-solving focused, helping students overcome difficulties and improve confidence with exam-style questions.
For A-Level students, I place strong emphasis on building solid mathematical foundations before moving into intensive past-paper practice closer to exam season. This approach helps students not only perform well in exams, but also transition more comfortably into university-level STEM subjects.
I encourage students to actively participate during lessons by attempting problems themselves and discussing their thought process, rather than simply watching worked solutions. This helps develop confidence, mathematical intuition and exam technique over time.
I can also support students in:

undergraduate Engineering Mathematics,
Mechanics modules,
and selected Engineering or simulation-related university topics.
