I usually teach by first teaching a bit of theory and then investing most of my time into a guided problem solving with the student. This way it makes sure that the student is able to tackle the question he/she is given and is able to understand the technicality and practicality of the topic.
I try to add some intuitive questions, facts and challenges, so that the student develops interest in the subject. Which helps with building focus in the subject.
This structure is the one my professor uses and it's very effective.
