About Jack
I’m a former high school teacher/lead guitarist/session soloist who doesn’t have time to lug his gear from show to show anymore. My lessons are unconventional because I’m unconventional: I’m a self-taught multi-instrumentalist for whom the guitar clicked at a very early age. My advantage as a teacher is that I can explain what exactly clicked to my students in a way they understand.

I tailor lesson structure/content not only to my student’s ability but to the kind of music they most enjoy. My beginners/intermediate players master the CAGED system by learning their fave songs in at least three different inversions. They practice by experimenting with variations of their songs on their own, and by jamming with me during lessons. They learn technique the same way - not by drilling, but by experimenting with their sound. My advanced students learn to collapse the barrier between their internal melody and their guitars: I teach them to tune into the music in their heads and to solo uninhibited without relying on the same old licks. My lessons are unconventional: instead of rooting them in music theory, I teach my students how to harness the intuitive chord-shape structure of the neck, and to train their ears to know they’re right before they even play a note. The goal of my lessons is the same every time: to constantly improve your playing by embracing the fun of music.
